Learning how to crawl? Check. Learning how to eat solid foods? Check. Learning he’ll always be presumed guilty until proven innocent because he’s a man?
Double check.
In the era of #MeToo, I’m about to write something controversial; something that many circles would deem outrageous on its face.
But here goes: my son is being brought up in a world that finds his existence revolting. No, seriously. My son, your sons—all little boys—are being brought up in a world that increasingly hates their guts for the sin of being male.
Yes, the sin.
I recently heard a radio host tell a story of a woman whose daughter’s millennial, new mother friends literally “feel very bad that their children are boys in the age of Weinstein and all of these sexual abusers,” as if all males are inherently born with a gene that predisposes them to sexual deviancy.
And don’t start in; I know this isn’t the view held by ALL on the left, or by ALL millennials (obviously). But it IS—like it nor not—a byproduct of the political circus surrounding Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Our little boys, some of whom are old enough to start asking questions, and some, like my infant son who is blessedly too little (and too busy drooling on his bib and learning how to eat) to be affected by this right now, are soaking this all in.
In what I personally believe is a political smear campaign fueled by unadulterated hatred of Donald Trump and anyone associated with him or the conservative right, our little boys are being taught that they don’t matter because they’re MALE.
It doesn’t matter that scores of women in Brett Kavanaugh’s life recall him as upstanding and decent. It doesn’t matter that he has served honorably in public office for decades. It doesn’t matter that there is absolutely zero evidence, and zero on which to begin any sort of defense of himself. It doesn’t matter that Dr. Ford had to be practically dragged kicking and screaming before the Senate Judiciary committee to make her statement.
Kavanaugh has been accused by a woman. And by virtue of him being a “he” and her being a “she,” that’s all that matters.
(As an aside, you’re also teaching boys that it IS ok to sexually assault or harass women so long as you’re a Democrat. Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Daniel Inouye … and on and on.)
When did women become infallible? On what basis do Kavanaugh’s accusers—according to people like Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono, “NEED to be believed” and nothing less?
(As yet another aside, this is the SAME Mazie Hirono who spoke warmly of Senator Daniel Inouye at a dedication ceremony after serious allegations of repeated sexual harassment arose against him.)
When did we become the Islamic Middle East, except in reverse? There, the testimony of men is worth far more than a woman, and here, a woman’s word is increasingly worth far more than a man’s.
Don’t even come at me—you know it’s true.
Just look at virtually anything coming out of academia on “male privilege,” or out of politics (here’s Senator Hirono again, talking about how men need to “sit down and shut up”), or out of the media (here’s Buzzfeed news making an “important note” that “the Republican members of the Judiciary Committee are all white men.”)
(I didn’t realize race and political affiliation have a place in this debate—but apparently they do.)
The American Left is effectively and perhaps irreversibly teaching our sons that men—ESPECIALLY if you’re white and (God-forbid) Republican, you are scum. (And if you’re a minority and lean right, you’re a traitor). If you’re a man, that means you are worthless. You don’t deserve the air you breathe—and certainly not the right to your innocence until proven otherwise.
That’s another thing. You on the Left are teaching ALL children that a hallmark of our justice system (that pesky “innocent until proven guilty” thing) is irrelevant simply because you are still childishly livid that you lost an election.
Here’s another controversial nugget: it doesn’t matter if Kavanaugh IS guilty; he still deserves the presumption of innocence until such time as evidence (not just vague, blurry, unconfirmed accusations egged on by sleazy activist lawyers) proves him guilty. And you on the left are effectively throwing that away.
How dare you. And for what? A quick political win? To gin up your base? Seems like a fair trade—our sons and a hallmark of our justice system for your political victory. Got it.
You want to really face a world where there aren’t any good and decent men left? Keep it up. Keep teaching boys to sit down and shut up; keep teaching boys that they’re simultaneously bumbling idiots AND sexual predators.
Keep it up.
